Bright is a highly customizable financial simulator that allows you to create, import,
or share any financial scenarios you can think of. From grand and complex to small and
specific situations, such as moving to a lower-tax-rate country, taking a career break,
or buying a cheaper house, Bright will shed light on how your decisions, positions, or
circumstances affect you over time.
Being that we are still building Bright, many features, while displayed, may not work at this
stage, please be assured, that everything seen here and more will be built out over the coming
months.
The Sandbox provides an overview of your current Bright simulation.
Hovering your mouse over the Sandbox will update the "Status Bar" below it, showing you the
values of your total monthly income, expenses, cashflow, or accrued equity at that point
in time.
Cool stuff includes:
To introduce, remove, or alter an Input in Bright you will need to open the "Income" or "Expense"
window,
this can be done by clicking on the Status Bar "Income" or "Expense" panels, or by pressing the
"2" or "3" keys.
All Inputs introduced to Bright come without any specific Rules attached, the values on
the graph are displayed in "monthly totals", the "Frequency" drop down allows you to select how
often the Input shows up in the Sandbox, with the exception of the "Annual" frequency which is
simply intended to allow you to input your total annual income/expense, and see it dispersed over the year.
The "Start" and "Finish" fields allow you to specify when the income enters and leaves the Sandbox.
To introduce, remove, or alter a Rule in Bright you will need to open the "Rule"
window,
this can be done by clicking on the Status Bar "Rule" panel, or by pressing the
"1" key.
All Rules introduced to Bright come without any specific attachements, to attach a Rule to an Input
simply click on the green plus button, and select which Inputs you would like the Rule to apply to.
The value field is always to be considered as "p.a.".
Rule Effects are:
The Sandbox window can be opened by clicking on the Status Bar "Sandbox" panel, or by pressing
the "~" key. The Sandbox window provides an overview of various data points in your Sandbox at a
point in time, being based on where you are hovering over the Sandbox.
Currently we are working on:
The "Years" fields allow users to determine the Start and Finish date of their Sandbox, to be warned that Sandboxes with longer timeframes take longer to load, and if you exceed 100 years it can cause unexpected behaviours to occur. Dates can be in the MM/YYYY or M/YYYY numerical formats.
The Status Bar provides users quick insight into the various data types in their Sandbox based
on where they are hovering at the time over said Sandbox. Clicking any one of the panels in the
Status Bar will open the corresponding window for that panel.
Each panel shows the total monthly
value of that Income/Expense/Cashflow/etc., data point the user is hovering over, except for the
Rule and Equity panel, the Rule panel simply shows how many active Rules are present in the Sandbox, while
the Equity panel shows the total accrued equity at that point in time.
On the far left and right hand side of the Status Bar are the "Reset" and "Save Game" buttons, special
note - the Save Game window can also be opened by pressing "CTRL+S".
Currently we are working on:
The Navigation Panel allows you to travel between pages, either by clicking on the icons, or by pressing one of four arrow keys (⬅️⬆️⬇️➡️) to walk the Character around the navigation area, and when the Character is on the icon of choice pressing "Enter" to be taken to the desired page. To be aware, the icons change based on what page you are currently on, if you are on the Account page for example the Account icon will be replaced by the Sandbox icon.
The Forum provides you the ability to not only speak with your friends and the wider community about finance, it also allows you to share or download the Sandboxes of others, say an economist thinks CPI inflation is going to be 2% p.a. on average for the next 30 years, import that into your Sandbox, or say a friend created a "What if we lived in the 1980's Sandbox", import this and explore what the financial landscape looked like 50 years ago!
The Market Place aims to make finding and engaging with financial service providers that much easier by providing you the ability to search, sort and specify what you want and why, removing the hassel of clicking through a million websites and spending countless hours locating a single provider.
The Account page is your go to place for cutomizing your Bright experience, currently whether its through
changing the colour theme or username.
Currently we are working on:
In the top left hand corner of each page you may see your Username, the name of your current Sandbox,
or the Hitchhiker button.
In the bottom left hand corner you will find the "Toggle Buttons" that allow you to filter through what
data you want to display in your Sandbox.
To open the Share window you can open the Save Game window and click the Share button, or Press "CTRL+X".
The Share window will eventually allow you to easily share your Sandboxes with friends, Bright communities,
or the wider world.
In the Cashflow, Loans, and Equity panels we are currently working on developing the functions and features we want to go into these sections, and are the first thing on our to-do list after getting your feedback. The aim will be to provide accuracy as well as universal utility, so regardless of where in the world your based the features and tools Bright provides you are up for the task.
